About Us

History

Silvertree Rugby Football Club was established in 1954 in District Six which was forced to move to Lentegeur, Mitchell’s Plain 24 years ago by the Apartheid regime.

The club prides itself with a thriving record and was one of the most renowned clubs in the old Western Province Rugby Union who played at the infamous Track in Green Point. Silvertree has produced many players who represented WP and the South African Rugby Union (SARU) at national level

In 2006, Silvertree RFC was on the verge of being closed down, subsequent to numerous of players dropping out and the club was unsuccessful to attract new players. Since then the fortunes of Silvertree RFC have changed for the better.

With this change the club decided to go back to its roots, back to where it all started, District Six. Unfortunately there was no ground available in District Six so we had to search somewhere else. The search for a new venue took us to Malta Park Sports Complex which now serves us as our permanent home ground.

The club has an alliance with Trafalgar High School where all our junior players will be playing in the 1A Division of WP high schools rugby league while our other under 14, 15, 16, 19 and under 20 teams and 3 senior teams will play in WP Premier League Division B. These players are from all over Cape Town.
